Extra Money

I am retired and although my income (pensions) haven’t been affected I do find I am having extra expenses with cancer.

I applied and received attendance allowance, £61 per week,  it is not means tested and you spend it on what you feel you need. It is only available if you are in receipt of state pension. If that is you go for it.

HI member322 thank you for sharing this tip with the forum. The costs of Cancer are often under-rated and can add up so anything that can offset that is great.

  • Always worth do a benefit check with MacMillan to ensure you getting full entitlement to any help you might be due like council tax, pension credit.  Also if on water meter check your water authority's rules on capping charges .

    1. Hi  I'm the same as you retired and finding it like you say costly  having to go through treatment for cancer  and all the extra costs , I thought about attendance allowance and applying for it  being pension age and on a pension would I qualify do you think
  • You can only try. A friend of mine in similar circumstances applied and didn’t get it.If you fail you can appeal.
