Hello, I'd welcome some advice please not sure if this is the correct forum to post on and realise its kind of not crucial in the great scheme of things but to cut a long story short my eyes are getting worse and its the side effects one of many of Exemestane plus increased anxiety. Am in a small town. The receptionist refused to book an eye test as its been slightly under 2 years and ticky box that the NHS would not pay them even though I qualify for assistance! I've finished active treatment now just long term meds dexa scans etc but need new specs to read and do hobbies like jewellery making for the hospital to sell for fundraising - keeps me sane and positive when a low mood hits!. It would be a morale booster if anyone can help so can go back to the shop about it and hopefully get some help. Thanks. xxx
Thanks for answering. Appreciate it. What a good idea, I'll try and ring the surgery on Monday and see what can be done.
Hi my optician (boots) Did a test after chemo and one three months later no problem . Ask to speak to optician not receptionist . Agree good idea to ask gp for referral
Optician as Northerner suggested, also has the power to make referrals to eye clinics in hospital, so if there’s any delay take either option. DON’T be fobbed off!
I also went to Boots after chemo for an eye test, explained to them I wanted to check health of eyes after chemo and they were happy to give me an eye test. That was also during lockdown when routine appointments were thin on the ground. Same with dentist - they have seen me whenever I have needed to go. Appreciate you're in a small tow, but is there anywhere else nearby that you could call instead?
Big thank you Northerner for your reply that is what I must do, these supportive posts have given me more confidence to push on - grateful x
Aww t y again, am feeling supported and more confident now about dealing with these people, we shouldn't have to put up the box ticking mentallities - I'll update soonest x
Thanks Beatthebreast for replying. There are two of the big well known ones in the nearest cit and I;ll check Boots out too they are somewhere in a shopping mall, an excuse too to get out and have a bit of window shopping, anything to lighten the days. Btw I called into that other well known brand shop that begins with and ends with an 's' and the girl there said no you cant make an appt it must be done online only and I was standing there right in front of her and the laptop on the desk. What is it with some people?!! Glad you got yours tested - healing thoughts heading your way
