Hi, I had my radiotherapy for breast cancer back in September. I reacted quickly with burns from the second day and was a beautiful bright pink all the way through. I had some weeping and breakdown of tissue but was treated accordingly and the skin recovered well. However, despite me still moisturising daily I find the skin on my breast itches so much still. I resist the urge to scratch as I'm scared I'll cause damage. Does anyone else experience this after so many months post radiotherapy? Just want to check it's normal after so long.
Thanks in advance.
Hello. Can I ask is it just boob that is itchy? I had a bout of itchy skin at Christmas this was 3 months after I finished rads. Itchy skin is also a menopausal symptom so could also be caused by hormonal changes and or any drugs you are on. You can use hydrocortisone 1% for the itching as that's what I was recommended by the radiology nurse but you have to use it sparingly. Perhaps speak to GP for extra advice or help. I was also prescribed some stronger antihistamines to help. I get the odd itchy bit and its been 9 months post rads. My physio told me that it takes 6 months minimum for skin to improve after rads but can take a couple of years. Everyone is different.
Thanks for your advice tired minion. I take tamoxifen now so that may also be contributing to the itchiness too.
Just thought about my response and that wouldn't explain why it's just on the radiotherapy side.
