Hi guys,

Has anyone found a good solution for face flushing?

I am on Day 5 of my 1st chemo regime (EC). My face is red and tight. Am mostly coping ok otherwise.

From reading, looks like it's probably a reaction to the steroids. I am taking antihistamines to help with the Filigram anyhow. Covered in factor 50 if i need to go out.

I just hoped one of you lovely folk could recommend a good face cream that has helped you with this. I have tons of expensive potions from before chemo, but can only guess at a E45, Eurax or coconut oil kind of thing now?

Thanks, Elle

  • Any product would need to be cleared by your medical team first (i was a little surprised at what they permitted and what they vetoed in my case) to make sure it would not interfere with the treatment drugs. That said, I find vitamin E oil really helpful for all skin discomforts. I also use an on-prescription washing lotion called Dermol500. This product also has a body lotion version and together they have been saving my skin, literally, for over a year now. Possibly your nurse could find out if this would be suitable for you?

  • Hello,

I found my face flushed for just a day or so then stopped on it's own. I never thought to put cream on it. I am several years past chemo now and my skin is fine so no permanent damage. I guess a light cream might be best to stop the tightness, perhaps an aftersun cream which is designed to reduce redness and burning sensations? I think it's the Aloe Vera that actually soothes so if you had some Aloe Vera from before, that might do the trick.

Hope your chemo continues well. Sounds like you might have avoided sickness this round....

    Love Karen

  • Thank you so much! I will give them a call. I think a simple Vitamin E is a good shout.

  • Thanks for your reply. Aloe Vera is such a great, obvious idea. I have one growing on my window sill! I will check with the nurses, but honestly looking through all my expensive little pots and potions it didn’t occur to me to just look at my little garden
