Hi all, last week I had lymph nodes removed from under my right arm. I have now developed a seroma which I very painful and uncomfortable. I just wondered if this had happened to anyone else and if you have any tips on how to get rid of it. Thank you x

  • I would definitely go and see your breast care nurse. They can check it out and see if the fluid needs draining. I have had this problem on and off since I had an op for full node clearance. The nurse refers me to the breast surgeon and I then get an ultrasound scan to check if it’s fluid. I’ve had mine drained 5 times now!!! Fingers crossed it won’t come back this time?!!

please don’t stay in pain. Your nurses are there to help!

  • Hi. I had full lymph node clearance and a lumpectomy. I developed a seroma and my skin was sore where it was rubbing against my arm. I was advised by the breast care nurse to keep up with the exercises and to gently massage the area when using the Bio Oil. It helped.

I also had to change my bra to a cami top with built in bra. I found that normal or post surgery bras didn't come up high enough under my seem and the seroma developed just above the bra. The cami top came over the seroma and helped with the soreness and the rubbing.

    Hope this helps x

  • Ring your BC nurse. I had mine drained 5 times. It doesn’t hurt and feels so much better after it’s been done. It does stop filling just need to give it time. It’s your bodies response to the surgery. C
