Hi all.

I had 2 lumps that were removed in Feb, one was grade 2, the other grade 3 plus 1 in 6 lymph nodes involved. Margins were not clear so had to go back in. They found more cancer (grade 2) and another dodgy lumph node (so makes 2 in 7). Had 3rd op 3 weeks ago and hopefully find out results this Wednesday. If it wasn't successful, then it's a mastectomy.

Still don't know if chemo is on the cards - originally told it would be radiotherapy but surgeon mentioned the Optima trial at my last results meeting (didn't get to speak to her on day of surgery), so am now wondering if it is now part of the plan. Guess I might find out Wednesday. Just want to know what to prepare myself for.

Anyone here been through similar?

Oh what a long haul and such a shame nothing was clear initially. Sadly I haven’t been through what you’re experiencing but I had mass so straight away had LB removed, 1 in 5 lymph affected and am now on chemo followed by radiotherapy. We’re all so different l Make sure you write everything down and ask, ask, ask for clarity. I wish you well. Not long to wait till Wednesday. X

Yes I have been through a similar experience. 2 OPS which didn't produce a clear margin with 8 out of 18 lymph nodes affected. It was decided that I have chemo before a 3rd OP and then radiotherapy. If that isn't successful then I will also have to have a mastectomy. I didn't want to have chemo but it is nearly over now and hasn't been as bad as I originally thought. It's a long haul but I think if they get a clear margin then it will all be worth it. I hope that you get the result you are hoping for as I do too. I haven't been offered the Optima trial but I am doing everything they say is necessary so that I can have a normal life again. Hope that all goes well for you - keep us updated.
