Scalp pain

HELP, I'm on day seven of first cycle for breast cancer and it feels like ants are crawling over my scalp, it is very unpleasant. Is that the start of hair loss? I can't find much about pre-hairloss pain or sensitivity. Thanks

  • Hi, you are right that this is an indicator of the chemo affecting your hair follicles. Some people wear a soft bamboo hat to stop the hair moving around so much, as that can make the feeling more uncomfortable. Some cut their hair shorter, though that was not for me.  Although it is not nice to lose the hair on our heads, it is very convenient not to have to shave legs and armpits for months! Hope it settles down and isn't too uncomfortable. I seem to remember that tenderness going after about day 8 in the first cycle.

  • Oh, thanks so much for that. I thought I was going a bit mad, there is so much to take in with all the chemo effects kicking in really fast. Glad to hear it will pass and I can ditch the razor!

  • You are not mad at all! I wish they tell you that on the chemo unit as things are less worrisome when we are anticipating them. xxx
