Hi, After quite a few tests including biopsies I was recently diagnosed with grade 3 invasive ductal cancer. Briefly saw a Consultant who told me it was a small lump & nothing much else except that they need a clearer view so sent me for a chest MRI which i had yesterday. He did tell me my treatment would be lumpectomy/hormone therapy/radiotherapy which surprised me as I thought that would have been decided after the MRI. I later looked at a sheet of paper I had been given which is when i found out what type of cancer i have. I know i should have asked questions at the time but my head was in such a spin i couldn't think what i should be asking
I'm constantly flipping between wanting to know more but scared to, numb is it really happening & am I going to get the right treatment. A few colleagues know but finding it difficult to tell anyone else.
Hello , I’m newly diagnosed (2 days ago) , your description pretty much sums up what I’ve been told about my breast lump. Still feel stunned & not quite able to acknowledge that I’ve joined the club that no one actually wants to be a member of. I currently live in Scotland but am from Essex .
what a scary thing to have to come to terms with..
Dont make the mistake I made of Googling!! I ended up on a US website which didn’t hold back and left me thoroughly hacked off! Always ask oncologist or Macmillan staff if you want to know more. They know how to be discreet! So sorry to hear of yours and MarigoldMUM diagnoses. it’s club no one wants to join. I wish you well xx
Hi MarigoldMUM, So sorry to hear that you too have recently been diagnosed.
I felt the same, it just doesn't feel like it's happening.
I'm hoping by being on this community site I won't feel quite so alone in all this & gain some information to help me start to come to terms with it. I hope it helps you in the same way. I made the mistake of Googling & found it wasn't a good idea, i just couldn't cope with what I read.
If you don't mind me asking, what is your next step? I am waiting to see the consultant again after my MRI.
I am from Yorkshire.
Thank you for replying. You don't say how/when you joined the club but I hope you are doing ok.
I did make the same mistake & jumped on to Dr. Google after I had my biopsies. Worst thing I could have done!! Thanks for your advice hopefully being on here will give me the courage to speak to the Macmillan staff for advice.
Take care x
Found lump 6 Dec last yr GP saw me straight away, mastectomy LB Feb after barrages of tests, now completed 4th chemo, just 2 more to go…rollercoaster ride but I’m still upbeat! I hope you’re dealing with all that’s been thrown at you…no one unless they’ve been through this can possibly understand, that’s why this site is invaluable!! BW xxx
Sorry to hear what you are going through but you are an inspiration, it's great to hear you are still upbeat!! At the moment I'm struggling with it all, stressing about getting the right treatment. Hoping I can gain strength being on this site to deal with it like you are.
If you don't mind me asking....... Did your team recommend mastectomy/chemo from the start? I expected my team recommending the same with being grade 3 invasive ductal & high grade DCIS (I don't know enough though).
Thank you for your reply it really does help to speak to someone who is going through it too.
BW xx
