Using Oestrogen Cream after HER2 Positive Breast Cancer

Hi everyone

This is my first time posting on here.   I had HER2 breast cancer with mastectomy, lymph node clearance, 6 x chemo and 15 x radiotherapy and I have just had my last herceptin and pertuzamab injectionBlush

My hair has grown back like a curly mop, my nail still snap off in the slightest breeze and my eyebrows are growing back in ten different directions but I couldn't care!
However I am struggling with menopause symptoms which I believe come courtesy of Tamoxifen.   I have chronic urges to go for a wee when I don't need to go, I've had countless UTIs and cystitis, have been hospitalised three times with haemorragic cystitis and am on antibiotics every few weeks.  I rarely have more than 90 minutes sleep in one go each night as I am constantly woken by hot flushes and sex is so uncomfortable I'd rather clean the oven.

I know HRT is out of the question and don't want to even risk it even though I follow the menospause doctor Louise Newsome on instagram who says it's not.
I mentioned these symptoms to my lovely chemo nurse the other day and she rang me yesterday to say that thinking has now changed and I could try to use a low dose vaginal
oestrogen cream (Oveston?) to help with some symptoms.  I could have jumped for joy but now today the worry wombles are kicking in and am thinking it could pose a risk.

So what I'm trying to ask in a very roundabout way is if anyone else has been HER2 positive but has any info/experience about using vaginal oestrogen cream.
Thanks so much everyone, much appreciated.
Keep smiling x

  • I am triple negative and my breast consultant was happy for me to continue to use Vagifem

  • My consultant, too, was happy for me to continue Vagifem, even though my bc was 8/8 oestrogen receptive, it was ‘quality of life’ choice she said.

  • I am using Replens, which is oestrogen free, so that might be worth a try first if you are worried. My oncologist did. also say if that doesn't work then “quality of life” was important and we'd look at alternatives.

And I empathise with the curly hair, dodgy nails and half regrown eyebrows!

  • I tried replens, which was good and am now using regelle as I prefer the application method (single thin tubes, rather than thicket multi use applicator).

Both are hormone free and have made a massive difference to how I feel there. Why don't you give those a go first before hormone creams if you are worried? Research shows they can be just as good at healing and moisturising and I have certainly noticed this.

For UTIs/cystisis, look into pure d-mannose. Endless cycles of antibiotics are not good for your whole system. You might want to take a course of probiotics too to get your system back on track after antibiotics.

  • Replens also do a single use by the way, but i might also look at Regelle, hadn't come across that, thanks

  • Oh I didn't realise that, thanks. Regelle very similar, but seems to be less messy for me for some reason.

  • Thank you so much! Heart️

  • Thanks so much for this Blush

  • Thank you so much!  I've never spent so much money on eyebrow pencil in my life.  I think I've done a good job then catch sight of myself in a mirror and realise one is an inch higher than the other!  You have to laugh tho!

  • Thank you so much for this!  I am seeing my doctor this week so will definitely mention this.  I have been given Sylk lubricant previously but didn't get on well with it and seemed to go through loads of it!  I have been taking probiotics and am eating saurkraut. Definitely an acquired taste!
