Delayed treatment

I have stage 3 breast cancer her 2 positive with 7 lymph nodes out of 14 which were cancerous. I have had a mastectomy full node clearance radiotherapy and now I am having 14 rounds of her 2. I have missed 2 rounds of this treatment now due to my heart having palpitations, it's taken them 2 weeks to sort out a heart monitor and now I have missed 2 cycles of treatment. I am absolutely petrified that this is allowing my cancer to spread or to come back. I feel so let down

  • Hello,

I'm sorry you are having such a stressful time and I understand why you feel very anxious. But you have had a mastectomy which will have removed the bc and the full node clearance means any cells lurking there have also gone. Did you have a PET scan to see if your cancer had travelled? If not, could you ask if one is possible because you are so worried. Personally, I don't think the delay at this point will make a difference. Your heart problem is far more important. These treatments are severe. If your heart is slightly under par, they could result in serious difficulties. In January my friend died. She was 10 days into her first chemo cycle. She had a stroke caused by the drug reaction in her heart. If doctors had realised the fault, they would have by passed chemo, they said later.

So try hard not to worry. Delays are usually for the best once treatment is underway. I developed neuropathy and only completed 5 out of 6 chemo but that was nearly 7 years ago. I am still clear.

Take care. I hope the treatment will soon be able to resume because your heart has been sorted too and all continues well for you.

    Love Karen
