Has anyone had therapeutic mammoplasty, reducing the size of my breast at the same time as removing the cancer,I'm having lymph node removal too

  • Hi I have had this surgery, what advice are you needing please xx

  • Hi,thanks for replying, I was offered this, reconstruction, or mastectomy

Just a bit worried about the healing of it,with the 't'

  • I had a lumpectomy and bilateral mammoplasty in mid February.  My wounds healed well, and I've had a very good cosmetic outcome.

  • Yes I did, on the left side (this was before they found another cancer on the right side). I was reduced from a D to a B, so that I could maintain a breast on that left side. My surgeon told me the surgery was very complex and they had to rearrange a lot of tissue, which was why I suffered a lot of pain post operatively. Now I’ve had a mastectomy on the other side, with an implant, it looks pretty good. My left nipple is distorted by a scar and is permanently erect, and doesn’t have much sensation, and my breast is little sunken in the middle. I’ve been offered fat transfer but I don’t know if I can be bothered just to have a more rounded breast.

At first it was weird seeing myself relatively flat chested instead of wearing underwired D/DD bras and looking busty. But now I’m more used to it. I’ve changed my style of dress, going for the Lagenlook style and am embracing the new me. It’s a small price to pay for getting through cancer

  • Hi  I had the t junction scar. It did go abit swishy, but healed fine. Lost abit of sensation in the nipple area and did go down about 3 sizes. I am pleased with my new size, I struggled so much with back ache before because of my large breasts. I did have to had a masecton on my  cancer side because they could not get clear margins on my area of dcis. So have a tissue expander at the moment, while I have radiotherapy. I have requested to go on my plastic surgeons list for a diep. xx

  • Thanks for the reply, thought I was just having a lumpectomy tbh,but don't think it's an option, they have to remove quite a large lump.im so worried about it all, should be having the op next Thursday

  • Thanks for getting  in touch,my head is so mixed up,op should be next Thursday, so nervous, I've never had a general before either.goodness knows how I'm going to get through it.

You've been through so much ,hope you're  OK

You wonder where you get your strength from some days

  • Thanks for replying

I was given 3 choices,I have a 6cm tumour plus I need lymph node removal

Told I'll need radiotherapy after plus maybe Chemo then Herceptin for 10 years

Not thought of anything else since my diagnosis, it takes over your life

  • Is that size with dcis n invasive. My invasive was 20mm and then I had widespread dcis. Both grade 2 lymph nodes clear. I was her2 positive so had chemo and herceptin. Having no 8 of 9 herceptin on Friday then starting radiotherapy in afew weeks. It does take over your life, but take one day at a time. Here if you need any advice or a chat xxx

  • Hi Kittycougar, I had this done in February....I was diagnosed with papillary breast cancer,  I had a lumpectomy and lymph node removal as well as Therapeutic mammoplasty on both breasts..  They removed 3 lumps 47mm 20mm and 13mm and the margins are all good and nodes clear.  I was an H cup now and E and have to say results are excellent for a 59 year old not sure the boobs have ever been this perky Slight smile.  I finished radiotherapy last week and so far only pink skin so hoping that is as bad as it gets...  Also on Anastrazole for next 5 years.  I'm glad it was all done at same time as they did talk about removing cancer and doing one side and the other 6 to 12 months later.

    Good luck with your treatment.
