Hi I have recently had a mastectomy and 2lymph nodes removed under arm. Part of my chest muscle was also removed experiencing what I can only describe as sharp pins and needles in upper left arm Has anyone else had this .also how long on average did your drains stay in.
Well my surgeon told me those pins and needles can occur when damaged nerves join up again, so it could a good sign maybe? I’ve still got nerve pain 6 months later but most of the pins and needle areas are much, much better. As for drains, mine were in 6 days but I had reconstruction so they don’t want blood building up as it can damage the implant. I definitely felt better once the drains were out
I am sorry to hear you are uncomfortable after surgery. The sharp pins and needles will be due to nerve pain as nerves have to be damaged in order to carry out the surgery. If you are in a lot of discomfort there are particular medicines to manage that rather than the usual pain killers. Have you mentioned it to your surgeon or BCN? They may be able to talk through it with you to find the best option to make you more comfortable. xxx
