After effects of mastectomy

Since having my mastectomy on Tuesday I've felt great (well as good as I can be if you know what I mean). Today though I feel utterly crap, light headed ringing in ears and generally useless. Is this normal. Can't get hold of nurses due to bank holiday and NHS 111 lines jammed as struggling to get through so thought I would ask here.

  • Hi shesace! Did they not give you a number for the ward you had your surgery on? I seem to remember getting an emergency number. Although, as you only had your surgery two days ago, it’s still quite early on and recovery from the anaesthesia alone can take a while. I remember feeling quite “high” immediately after surgery and in quite good spirits. But I did come crashing down a day or two later, mainly mentally rather than physically! I suspect it’s perfectly normal to feel a bit crappy at the moment. However, if you have a drain fitted still, I’d make sure all is well with that and you’re not bleeding or anything (I’m sure you won’t be). If you become really concerned, don’t hesitate to go to A&E or phone an ambulance if necessary; you’re worth it Wink! I’m sure you’ll feel fine soon, take care of yourself. xxxx

  • Thanks Mazz I didn't have a drain fitted and thankfully no swelling apart from what is to be expected and no sign of any bleeding. Luckily the district nurse is here tomorrow to change dressing so I'll be ok until then. Thanks for the reply hun as I feel more reassured just reading it. Xx

  • I also had the ringing in my ears really bad after my mastectomy operation, also felt like I had pressure in my ears . I put it down to the anaesthetic. Pleased to report it did eventually get better . I think the anaesthetic stays in your system for a while . Hoping you soon feel better.

  • Missi K I'm so sorry you went through that but I've got to admit I'm glad it's not just me. Hopefully come tomorrow things may be a bit better .
