Hair dye after using cold cap for chemo

Hi I finished chemo for triple negative breast cancer just a few weeks ago on 5th May, I started radiotherapy last week for 10 sessions so I’m finishing that next week. I used the cop cap which thankfully saved most of my hair albeit I know it’s thinner but I can cope as it wasn’t great to start with! Anyway I used to get it dyed lightest blonde for about 30 years at least and not had it done since November 2021when I was diagnosed. (Ironically same day I found out my lung mets hadn’t grown so I was celebrating a bit too early!)

I have googled and I know 6 months is the suggested time after chemo to dye it again BUT it’s really bad as that brassy yellow blonde at ends and grey/light brown roots. I feel guilty even asking or complaining as I know how lucky I am to still have most of it but I wanted to dye it asap. I don’t care about being blonde as I know they’ll be too harsh for it. Any recommendations for colour change before the 6 months? Has anyone successfully coloured their own hair or had it coloured professionally? Thanks for reading.

  • Hi  I lost my hair due to chemo and it was growing back grey and it did nothing for me!! I had a semi permanent color applied at my roots and washed through 3/4 months after finishing chemo and have had it done again since. Hairdresser used color that doesn’t contain ammonia and my hair is doing fine, growing slowly. I am now a dark brunette Haircut tone1

  • I was advised to tell the person dyeing my hair and use vegetable based dyes if you can.
