Does anyone know if it is okay to take Starflower oil during cancer treatment and if you have/had ER positive breast cancer?

  • I have never heard of this oil, but even if someone here responds and says, "oh, it's perfectly ok; I asked my oncologist and they OK'ed it," I would ask your own team, because what is ok for one patient may not be so for another.

I love my supplements, so when I approached my oncologist about it I made it clear I was not asking if in his opinion they would be beneficial, I only wanted to know if any of them were contra-indicated and forbidden. On one occasion, when he wasn't sure, I asked my nurse to check with the oncology pharmacists, and got my answer.

  • Hi , I’ve taken starflower oil before in supplements for easing menopausal symptoms. However this was all pre my cancer diagnosis and as it’s a hormone regulator (I think) I’d definitely check with your oncology team first. My cancer was strongly oestrogen positive so I don’t take any supplements apart from recommended vitamin D and calcium, to counteract the bone thinning effects of Anastrozole. But always good to check with your team as it may be that starflower oil is ok. Love and hugs, HFxx
