Had breast cancer and mastectomy six months ago.

Post menopausal and really ,really struggling with anxiety.

Im now off work because of it

Is Hrt a definite no no ?

  • I guess it depends on your hormone situation because you DON'T want to replace hormones which will feed cancer.  I don't know if you are under an oncologist (you only say surgery above) but I would speak to them first to find out your hormone status.  If there is nothing that can be done from that side then you should be referred to your GP to talk about acceptable treatments for your anxiety and any other menopausal side effects.  best wishes

  • This is something to discuss with your oncologist, I have ER negative breast cancer but was told not to use any products with oestrogen in, even gels, some ladies on here have been allowed to use gels and other products so I don’t think the answer is a straight yes or no, I think it’s dependant on your personal circumstances x

  • HRT off limits if hormone positive. You can ask your oncologist. All sorts can help from breathing, yoga, meditation, counselling. And then medication from the GP. Or CBD oil tablets can help apparently. Lots of options. Am sorry you are suffering with anxiety and hope you can find something that helps you feel yourself again xx

  • My point is I’m not hormone positive but was still told no hrt x

  • As others have said, speak to your oncologist but just to add, there are other options for people who have had breast cancer so you could also ask your GP.

I have been trying acupuncture for hot flushes and night sweats and although those have only been slowly reducing, one thing I have really noticed is that my anxiety has reduced. I wasn't severely anxious, but now I don't have it, I realise I had a lot of anxiety at night and my tolerance levels were quite low if something happened. Acupuncture has really helped with all of that, and mood in general. I no longer have those flashes of anger that were so alien to me.

Unfortunately, I have had to pay privately for it but there are some health boards or Maggie centres that offer it for free.
