Can anyone shed some light on weight gain ? I have just completed 3 months of EC & on my 3/12 pax .. despite the nausea & not really eating much I am steadily gaining weight. For 3 weeks I have cut carbs and walked 12k steps for 4 days a week. I have seemed to stop the gain but no losses . In total I have put on 7 pounds since diagnosis in June 2021. I have had mastectomy and ANC . Most of the weight gain has been since chemo.

it’s hard enough having no hair eyebrows & eyelashes without being chubby and not getting into my lovely clothes. It contributes to bringing one down mentally

Can anyone shed any light to why this may be happening.. I promise I’m not a secret eater. I was a  runner & avid exerciser prior having run marathons & taught exercise classes. I had 4 kids no weight gain.. my usual strategies are failing me !!!!

  • It is probably water weight. I put on lots on docetaxel and lost weight on EC - and no difference to what I was eating. It started to become very obvious with puffy feet and I couldn't get rings off my fingers.

I would just add that chemotherapy is not the time to be worried about what you're eating and cutting out food groups. Your body / cells are all being killed off, you need nutrition to make more of them and recover.

Worry about it when you're finished. For me, it took at least 6 months to start feeling like the water weight was coming off. I spoke to my oncologist about is at my final appointment 5 months post-chemo and he said it was early days for getting back to normal after chemo water retention.

  • Hey

wwre you pre-menopausal? It could be chemo putting you into medical menopause and slowing your metabolism down? Or it could be water retention from the steroids?
