Hi

I've just been told my radiotherapy has been delayed until end of June. My lumpectomy was the beginning of march I've had my CT scan and tattoes.

I just need it done now Weary

Okay I know they are busy busier than ever due to catching up with treatments.

But I've got to go back to work as my fitness note runs out and I'm at 12 weeks full pay stage. I just wanted to get radiotherapy out of the way whilst I was off.

Thanks for reading my rant

Marie

    1. Hi Marie sorry to hear your treatment has been delayed the waiting is the worst.  I've not started my radiotherapy yet having 5 doses starting next Thursday 26th May. My lumpectomy, node removal and theraputic mammoplasty were 8th Feb and seems I've played the waiting game for last few months waiting pathology and Oncotype results. I went back to work after 6 weeks and am hoping the radiotherapy won't cause to much of an issue fingers crossed and i can still work if not I will go sick.  Good luck with your treatment.
  • Hi New Person, that's rubbish news, I can totally understand your frustration.

Are you able to go back to work before the radiotherapy starts? Depending what you do you may be able to suggest some working from home as well.

I've found that calling the clinics has resulted in appointments that I wouldn't otherwise have been offered, this has worked for results and for surgery. Maybe if you say you are available at short notice for cancellations they may be able to fit you in.

    Sending hugs Xx

  • Thank you Tigger62

Hope yours goes okay for next week

I know the wait is bad isn't it.

I think it was because I was waiting fir it to happen before I go back to work. So now I'm going to contact work and go back now end of the month.

Just hope like you that it's copeable whilst still working.

    Marie

  • Thank lovetowalk

I offered cancellation notice whilst having my tattoos they gave me the impression it would be 2 to 3 weeks.

Then I rang my BCN and asked her if she could maybe chase it up as I was getting anxious then this happened.

Still I'm going back to work on a phased return see what happens.

.hi. I’ve waited longer than you, but for other reasons. I was diagnosed in June last year and my biopsy showed a lump but lymph gland were negative. The lump and one lymph gland were removed and, in August I was informed the lymph gland was positive and my original 8mm lump had grown to 42mm (plus margins) removed. As my breast cancer was type 3 - fastest growing - they wanted to do chemo, then lymph gland removal. My chemo ended in Jan. 19 Lymph glands were removed in Feb - 5 had cancer killed by chemo and 5 were active for cancer. I had my radiotherapy booking (and tattoo) appointment yesturday and have my first radiotherapy appt on 8.June. I was put on the sick indefinitely from 16 July 2021 and my unions advised me to stay on sick for as long as possible due to my employer (government) sick policy and have had full pay fir 6 months and now on 6 months half pay. If I go back to work, then go sick again, I’ll go on a warning as it’ll be my 3rd period of sickness (prior to all this I had one day off for a headache)…. They could then dismiss me for ‘playing’ the sick system. I’m staying off as long as I can - the worst part will be if I go onto nil pay - I then have to claim ESA and my work colleagues will have to interview me to set up my claim… will see how it goes and may use savings to support myself for a few weeks before going back to work if necessary… I really wish they’d finish me on health grounds, but as breast cancer is classed as a temporary illness, I know they won’t support me….. my hubby’s also awaiting a kidney transplant - if he’s called in for that I’ll have to take time off to nurse him after his op so may need to go sick if my employer won’t allow me time off - they already owe me 5 weeks leave from last year and 32 days fir this year!
