Three weeks post mastectomy, was surprised that there was very little pain, more discomfort really. Only ingoing issue is under arm numb and feeling in upper arm and near underarm like what I can only describe as feeling like a friction burn. Anyone else experience this and if so how long does it last and is there anything i can do to alleviate this
Hi, glad you’re through it and hope you continue to improve.
in the op obviously nerve endings get cut. Nerves grow very very slowly and sometimes you still get numb patches where the nerves simply don’t grow back (yes I have) but sometimes the nerve endings can give you that annoying burn-like pain. As an Occupational Therapist, I used to advise amputees to massage their scars to reduce phantom pain, and this is what I’d suggest to you provided you’re fully healed. Use something like a bio oil which helps scars anyway.
if in any doubt then obviously check with your BCN.
Hugs xxx
