Hi All,

My wife had her first annual check-up/scans since being diagnosed with TNBC last year. All was clear etc which is great news.

When she had her surgery last November, the marker click was lost during surgery. The surgery was successful with clear margins, nodes etc.

Anyway, when she had her check-up scans yesterday they found the Marker Clip. it was in a different location to where it was inserted at diagnosis. The surgeon said that it isn't any cause for concern and obviously had moved while surgery was being carried out.

Is this a common thing to happen?

  • My titanium marker clip showed up at first mammogram and they said it had been left in so they could always see where the cancer had been. I didn't know it was there.

I also had a radioactive seed inserted prior to surgery and that was removed

  • I had four markers put in. I was told if I didn't need surgery they’d just stay in and not cause any problems. When I had a scan they couldn’t find one of them it was just very deep within the tissue.

  • Just had my first annual mammogram and discovered that I have five clips in the affected breast, I had never been told this before and it's only because they asked me if I was ok to have an extra image taken to make sure all the clips could be seen when the mammogram is checked and avoid any recall.

  • At my year 6 I found I had about 10 marker clips.  No one had ever told me or shown me mammogram films !
