It might sound a silly question but I have a hair appointment 14 days after my lumpectomy takes place. How soon did anyone else go out? Obviously I cant drive myself but does it sound feasible?
many thanks.
Not silly. Feeling good about ourselves is important.
With my first mastectomy I was out 3 days later as I had a hospital appointment I did not want to miss or postpone, so I went, drain included. With both mastectomies I was ok after 14 days to travel as long as it was by car.
With a hair appointment I would be thinking more of the different positions you may have to put your body into, such as if they need to wash your hair, and then sitting for a while in a chair while they cut, colour, or anything else you are doing, so perhaps you could take a small pillow or cushion in case you want the extra support, but overall I like the idea of you doing this, and I hope that even it is an extra effort, the hair result would make you feel even better.
However, I would ask the surgeon, just in case.
Hi
not a silly question at all but (from my own experience at least) I hope I can provide some reassurance. I had a mastectomy and lymph node removal. In both cases I was out of hospital within 24 hours and, apart from the fact that I had a dressing on, I could go about my life pretty much as normal. I avoided lifting anything heavy or otherwise straining my arm and chest but I was ok walking, shopping and getting my hair cut. I went on a day trip by train a couple of days after my node removal. I was lucky in that my surgeon isn’t a big fan of drains, so I left hospital without them, otherwise that might have been more of a hassle.
I appreciate everyone is affected differently but I felt very well after both my ops - hope you do too x
