Good morning all, just to ask I am going in for my surgery this Thursday and I think I have thought of everything to take with me ( through the valuable support forum) .

I am having a Mammoplastomy procedure(Theraputic) and I wondered what you all recommended to take into hospital with me:

Also it says you need slippers with backs is there a reason for this?

apologises for any spelling mistakes. Flushed

  • Hi Sophie

I had a therapeutic mammoplasty 3 weeks ago. Aside from the obvious phone book charger etc you will need a post surgery bra to take down to theatre with you and for going home either something front closing or sleeveless - I have found sleeveless better as there is nothing to run against the SNB scar if you are having a sentinel node biopsy.

I totally forgot slippers so I would say packing any is a bonus! They just don’t want you tripping on they way to theatre.

    Hope this helps

    Aly x

  • Hi Tilly

im in for op in 3 May I’ve not been told to bring slippers. Mine is a lumpectomy so wondering if there’s a difference in time scale. My op is booked in for the afternoon but not sure what time. As I’m only having the dye put in on the morning of op.
Fingers crossed All goes well x

  • Really good luck with your surgery, hope it goes well. Are you expecting to stay in overnight?

Things I used from my hospital bag were slippers and dressing gown for walking to theatre, post surgery bra, front fastening pyjamas, spare knickers, toothbrush and toothpaste, face wipes, moisturiser, front fastening soft loose top for going home, book, phone, iPad, charger, mints. I’d also recommend taking a bottle of water and a couple of snack bars, you should be given everything you need but it’s miserable to lie there hungry or thirsty and good to eat and drink as soon as you feel up to it after surgery.

  • Feeling really nervous.
I’ve not  been told I’m staying in but will pack a bag just in case. Good luck to your op on Thursday

  • Hi,

Not much to recommend but wanted to say I am also in on Thursday for a single mastectomy and recon. I have the same items in my list. Wishing us the best of luck! Let's chat on the day if you are up for it Slight smile

  • Dearest , , @Stellakos .....

I can't add to what you will need going in..... however, when coming home.......

Have 'pillow' waiting for you (bed size pillow).

When you sit in the seat place pillow against you and put seat-belt around it (if it will fit) other wise just hold it on your lap by you chest....

Reason, this will support your chest over all the lumps and bumps in the road - if you don't have any pain, then you can pop your head on it and have a well earn snooze.

Please remember you may feel absolutely fine after operation and going home.... remember to be kind to yourself, you might feel fine but you have gone thought a lot - so take it easy xxxx

    Thinking of you all xxxx

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x
  • Thank you so much for this would never have thought about that x

  • I'm currently in hospital as had single mastectomy with implant reconstruction yesterday. To add to the list if your staying in, is a long phone cable, my 2 meter one is a god send!

  • Fab thank you. Hope I’m not staying in but I’ll bring one just in case as I’m not in for op until afternoon. Not sure what time yet x

hope your feeling ok after operation and recovery goes well.  X

  • Tilly, Army and Steliakos, wishing you all the best for your surgery and wishing you and Linsgab a speedy recovery. Xx
