Hi, I’ve opted for reconstruction after my mastectomy which will involve a temporary saline implant until some six months after radiotherapy.
Do any of you lovely people have advice/tips on what I might need or be able to do to ease/aid recovery?
Many thanks.
Well, the usual advice here when this question comes up is to get a V-shaped pillow, make sure you have front-fastening bras and tops that are either front-fastening or loose and easy to slide overhead. These are for the first period after surgery. Also, to do the exercises they give you exactly as instructed, as these have proven, time and again, to make a real difference and in many cases certain stop issues developing. Long term advice sometimes involves recommendations on how to look after the surgery scars, but on that, please check with the surgeon before applying any product. My surgeon recommended vitamin E and was enthusiastic when I said I had vitamin E oil at home ("apply liberlly; really rub it in!") but best check before doing the same.
