i am currently into my 5 month of anastrozole and suffering with major hair thinning and brain fog.  I have seen some people comment that by taking arimidex which is the non generic the side effects are more tolerable?  Has anybody any information regarding this.  I don't feel i want to swap to a completely new drug as this may have even worse side effects.  My GP has said he will not prescribe as this is the more expensive drug.

Also I feel i am having to learn my job from the beginning agian as my mind just goes completely blank on basis information.

Many regards

  • Hi, sorry I don't have any experience of anastrozole but just wanted to send a hug as no one has replied and I can see that you are having a tough time

  • Hi I am about 10 months into anastrazole. I have hair thinning. I have thick hair so it's not that bad. I am self conscious so wear my hair in a thick band.  The thinning has got less the further on I am.

Accord is the brand of anastrazole that I am on. It's good I like u don't want to change. I have a lot of pain with it and very extreme tiredness which started to get really bad about month 8.

I am 're adjusting my life to a slower pace. It's hard.

I find take each day as it comes if the cancer had not been found would u be here. I thank my surgeon every day in my head. Second chances have to be used.

    Lots of hugs

    Helen

  • How very kind of you. Thank you so much. Xxx I hope you are doing well? Xx

    1. Hi - thanks so much for responding, it sounds very like you have similar side effects, I also have tiredness, I sleep 12 hours and feel so fatigued as the day goes on,  Unfortunately I work full time snd to reduce hours is not an option.
    2. kind regards c
  • Hi, yes I am. The same with work. My doc has said work from home, my employer does not want that so I am in the middle of a battle my relationship with my employer is changing for the worse. I never imagined being in this situation. V worried about losing my job. People at work don't understand the situation when u say u are tired. U get so am I at the end of a day, as if u should just get on with it. They don't get extreme tiredness like we do.

Always glad to chat, nice to hear from so.eone going thru the sane loops.

    Lots of hugs chatting helps

  • Hi Helen I’ve been on Anastrozole for 16 months and my hairdresser noticed my dry and thinning hair after the last lockdown.
She suggested a specific shampoo and conditioner that gave my hair body and shine. It seems expensive but need only use a walnut size of product so it may last nearly a year !

im retired but I do notice my concentration isn’t what it was and I forget things so have to make a reminder.

I think body gets used to drug, I was on tamoxifen before and I think my body is tolerating it ok as I’m used to the weariness and pace myself, aches by they fade which is good so far. I’m much slower.

ah the slowness maybe recovering from covid from Easter weekend, poor body!

    lots hugs J

  • Hi Helen,

Omg! I so understand how you feel, as you say the tiredness is so difficult and work colleagues just think you are causing a fuss and exaggerating! I work for a GP surgery and have done for 20 years and ended up leaving my job as I felt under so much pressure and in supported by my immediate Manager. Fortunately the partners have stepped in and I am still working, but it’s a battle everyday. I am single and unfortunately cannot afford to give up work, therefore o am using my holiday weekly to reduce my hours to cope. It really is a nightmare and I worry so much about what work colleagues think. So nice to chat and meet somebody in the same situation. I never really thought about the meds fit cancer having such a significant impact on your life.
lots of hugs to you Helen

    1. Hi J

Really interesting reading your post, can I ask what products you are using? Also why did you switch from tamoxifen to anastrozole? Do you find anastrozole better. I think it’s definately a plus to be retired as you can lead a slower life. It really is so helpful to hear others stories. Thank you so much.

Much love abs I hope you are well!

  • Hi Wajdi

i now use Nioxin system 2. It can feel the difference.

tamoxifen had stopped working and my metastasis had spread from 1 vertabae to 4. Anastrozole is stalling the secondary bone cancer for now, regular ct scans.
