When did your side effect start?

I finally had my 1st chemo 3 days ago and other than mild nausea and very tired I've not had the side effects I was expecting. I know it's early days but when did your side effects start?

  • With my first chemo regimen, a few days after first treatment I had a bit of diarrhoea but felt fine otherwise. I think it was perhaps the third treatment when I started to notice real impact (out of 28 treatment in total on that regimen.) When I was doing treatments 10-12 it seemed the chemo I was basically bedbround, so the oncologist reduced the dosage to 80%, and I was able to get through the rest of it at that dosage.

With my second chemo regimen, different drugs, I started to feel the impact on the evening of Day 5 (Day 1 would be the day of the chemo) of the first treatment.

    What chemo are you on?

  • Interesting question Tracey,i start on wednesday and very aprehensive now, hope its not too bad for you

  • I'm on EC with dexamethasone steroids.

28 treatments is a lot! Thankfully at the moment I've got 12 cycles over 6 months

Thanks for your input, I won't get too excited that I've been let off easy just yet lol.

  • Same to you deedee54, the nurses are very informative, and I think everyones expectations are different but I can tell you it's not like the tele! Lol

  • I have incurable stage 4 metastatic secondary breastcancer,  I think my side effects started the 2nd week in the 1st cycle and gradually increased till my oncologist reduced my abemaciclib from 150mg to 100mg twice a day. I've suffered mainly from diarrhoea.

I hope your side effects won't get to bad.

  • Sorry they can't cure you, but any knowledge you've learnt on your journey is valuable x

  • I honestly had a slightly different experience each time but overall I was worst on EC day 5 onwards and on docetaxel I felt worse after day 2/3 and for about a week. Like I had a massive hangover. Then some cycles I had additional things, diahorrea, constipation, mouth sores, sore throats, etc. but often would have one cycle with a killer sore throat but not of the others, or one where I was constipated and others diahorrea!! Or migraines then none, it was like a crap pick and mix!! X

  • That's true any knowledge is valuable. I wish you a relatively smooth journey.  I say relatively cos we all know with side effects it wont always be as smooth as we'd wish for.

One off my side effects has been a nasty taste or no taste at all.

  • I’m stealing that - ‘crap pick n mix’ Joy That exactly what my side effects have been like but I’ve never been able to explain it to people before! Thanks for making me giggle
