Hi I’m two weeks post 5day course radiotherapy for grade 1 invasive DC had lumpectomy and lymph node removed all back clear. Last couple days experiencing very tender ribs below breast as if I’ve been kicked in them which of course I haven’t and around nipple area. Is this normal any advice appreciated. Also When do side effects begin to ease off I’m also so tired and joints are painful. Start Tamoxifen tomorrow hoping that will be relatively side effect free. Thanks in advance xx

  • Hi

Unfortunately rib pain can be a side effect of the radiotherapy as the ribs do get some dose. I have it myself sometimes and I finished RT in September.

As far as the tender nipple goes two weeks post treatment things should start to improve for you as the max effects are felt approx two weeks after finishing. Keep moisturising and try and avoid friction to your nipple.A piece of silk ( old hankie or scarf) in your bra can help as it reduces friction but it has to be silk as that’s so soft.

Feel free to take any of your usual painkillers

    Hope you feel better soon
