hi all

I have been diagnosed with reoccurrence of breast cancer in same breast 8 yrs after past treatment .
does anyone know what the survival rates are for a reoccurrence? Is it the same statistics as 1 st time if it’s not spread ( this will be confirmed after op and analysing tissue)
I am having a mastectomy and reconstruction next week - very nervous , but positive .

Thanks in advance for any advice

xx

  • I had a reoccurrence after 7 years, nobody can tell you. It may be a totally different cancer, mine was, it maybe driven by gene issues, mine wasn’t, the answer to this will be personal to you, and can only be advised by your oncologist. I was told that I’ve simply been unlucky, two separate and distinct cancers in the same breast under the age of 50, it’s unusual but just the way it is. It’s hard to get your head around, all the very best of luck with your surgery and results xx

its the same type , not gene related, they sis say I had just been extremely unlucky … I did presume that when they say it’s a reoccurrence , it’s the same type , other wise I would expec5 them to say it’s a new cancer … but maybe I read too much into the ‘language’ they use .

hope you are in a positive position with yours now .

thank you for the response and good wishes xx

  • If you look at my bio you can see my cancer details, mine was also classed as a ‘reoccurrence’ but when I asked more questions they said that I’d been unlucky and they weren’t related, the first was DCIS, second invasive, but if yours is the same cancer then that would be different. My prognosis is good, I hope!! I hope you get some good news xx
