It’s been 5days since my first infusion of Docetaxol(2 more to go) I’m suffering really bad shooting body pains and lower back hip pains. I  also feel very weak (this may also be due to low red blood count.

just wondering if this is normal as didn’t experience any pain with EC . Not sure I can manage another 2 infusions of feeling like this , I’m finding it much harder than the EC. Just getting to the bathroom is so much effort.

Any experience/advice would be greatly appreciated .

  • Hiya missi k, I'm on the same journey as you, I to had my first Docetaxel last Thursday after completing the EC.

I'm struggling to, pains from shoulder blades, ribs, pelvis, pains in legs and feet. Still feeling nauseous even after anti sickness.

I'm really struggling to, iv had diarrhoea as well, have you experienced this? I'm not sleeping well with the bone pain. It really is a struggle, I'm sorry I haven't got any answers, but sounds like we are experiencing similar side effects.

I hope that they subside soon for both of us. Sending hugs xx

  • Hi Jane63, Thankyou for your reply,

it really is awful, had a few minor side effects with EC but feel I am making up for it now as I feel pretty crap.

So sorry you are also suffering. Our poor bodies must wonder what’s going on .

I haven’t suffered any sickness (yet) and I’ve been constipated, although I’ve heard a few people get diarrhoea with Docetaxol, so I was anticipating this .

Strange how it effects us all differently, but I sympathise with the pains as I also just cannot sleep at night , what with that and the hot sweats and cold shivers , I’m hardly getting any sleep and keeping my poor partner awake in the process.

I keep telling myself just 2more to go but not sure I can manage feeling like this much longer .Let’s hope our symptoms ease sooner rather than later .

  • Bless you, I feel exactly the same, don't know how much more I can keep it up. But the side effects should subside, just long enough for us to feel better and strong enough for the next round. I hope you keep the nausea at bay, I had it a little bit with EC, but it's constant this time, iv got 3 antiemetic but there not doing anything

At least we know we are on the home straight now. Sending you all the positives I can muster, we are doing good xx

    1. I do hope you soon get some ease from the nausea, I too had some with EC but just first couple of days after.

sending big hugs . Hope the next round is kinder to us both .

  • Yes this is very common with docetaxol. I had more nausea on EC but more pain on docetaxel, like a 'flu but with lots of other side effects on top. I found it much tougher and they ended up reducing my dose for the final 2 cycles. I could barely get up off the sofa for 10 days which they thought was too long.

Paracetamol did actually help me so if you're not taking anything for the pain, then worth a go. For your next cycles, take it before the pain starts. For me that was about day 3.

  • Thankyou Beatthebreast, I will definitely try the regular paracetamol. I take cocodamol when it gets too much but these just add to the constipation so I try and avoid taking them too often. I need to be more prepared next time.

  • You are not alone. I had my first Docetaxel last Wednesday and I'm still feeling rough as anything. Plus I had an  extravasation issue which is refusing to get better, I was wondering if the filgrasm (?) was responsible.... I have an appointment with the oncologist on Friday.

I had it in my head that the EC rounds would be worse because the meds are so nasty, but this has totally stuffed me over. My sinuses are sore and bleeding too. My mouth was so gross, thankfully getting better now.

Not a lot of fun, is it.

  • I also was under the impression EC was the more brutal drug but apart from mild nausea first couple of days , dry eyes a couple of mouth ulcers managed pretty well, although like you  I did also get horrendous sore nasal passages which still bleed when I blow my nose.
my chemist recommended sea water nasal spray which cleans and moisturiser the nasal mucosa which did help . I also applied Vaseline with a cotton bud occasionally.

I have a completely white furry tongue at the moment which looks and feels pretty gross. Oh the joys !!

  • I also had very few problems on the EC but I had my first docetaxel on Wednesday 23rd April and I had all the above symptoms, pain in all my bones, terrible diarrhoea (followed by a sore bum!), gross mouth and sore nasal passages.  Apparently the bone pain is caused by the filgrastim injections and does ease off once you stop having them, paracetamol every four hours was a life saver.  And then when I woke up last Saturday I felt so much better, I've been back working this week and can get out and about.

So for me, it seems it will be 10 days feeling awful and then 10 days OK until I have to do it all again.

  • I had pain in legs in docetaxel but it was only really bad for 24 hours and strong cocodamol helped.  ( I've had 3 cycles of it). I took laxido daily.for constipation.

I also found the pegfilgrastin ( the one off long acting filigrastin)gave me sternal pain, I know that it gives some people other boney pains. I found the daily injections more tolerable which I had with.my last cycle.

    Good luck xx
