would love to chat with anyone else experience with gallstones & breast cancer treatment.
I wondered if anyone has gallstones with a breast cancer Diagnosis ?
my short version about my worries, I was told on the 22nd March 22 that I have grade 12x7mm mass 2-3 IDC HER2 positive. I have had MRI last Friday 25th March to check my other breast and for any spreading, I have an appointment at the hospital on Thursday 7th April re MRI results & hopefully treatment plan.
I was suffering with horrendous gallstone attacks due to fatty foods which I no longer have fatty foods, i'm on a fat free diet , Lost 3 stone! i'm now weighing 7st 6lb. My worries is that I have read chemo sets off bad indigestion i'm so worried that if i have to have chemo the medications will set off an attack , I cannot bear the thought of having to go through 12 hours of agonising pain! if you have gallstones you'll completely understand where i'm coming from. on top of that I have mitral heart valve & have read that possibly Herceptin, which I believe is a drug taken for Her 2 Positive patients & people with a floppy heart valve may not be able to have it , i'm unsure why yet.
I'm also worried with being only 7st 6lb my body may not be strong enough. All i've eaten since January 2022 is as follows:
Breakfast: 2 weetabix , banana , few raspberries & ativa yog, Lunch: 1 Crumpet , Snack: pitted dates , Tea: Cous cous & sweet potato. drink tea & apple juice. I'm so so scared to have anything else to eat incase it sets of an attack it's been so tough battling on with my gallstones diagnosis then on top of it being diagnosed with breast cancer! it's such a worry to me!
I may not even have any of these treatments for BC, I've been reading lots of post on here & its sounds like most patients with Her2 positive receive Chemo , Surgery & Herceptin. I understand treatment is tailored for each individual.
Just looking for anyone else who is suffering with gallstones too & what there experience has been ?
I currently take Omeprazole twice a day.
Thank you to anyone who responds love Honey xx
Good morning....I am sorry you find yourself on this web site and can understand completely why you are so worried. This time of analysis in preparation for your treatment is probably the worst for everyone. Once you have a plan, you will feel more in control. You should be given details of the doctors who will treat you and once you know those , you will be able to discuss your fears regarding your gallstones. You won't start any treatments without the consent of your cardiologist either. I took omeprazole throughout my chemo as I have a hiatus hernia. I had a lot of side effects but not indigestion. Everyone is different. I can't say you won't get it but I'm sure oncology will monitor any problems you have.
I appreciate this final week of waiting for information won't be easy but try to remember that bc is treated very successfully these days. Many people recover. My own cancer was found and removed in 2015 nearly 7 years ago. All mammograms since have been clear.
I hope all goes well for you. Join the Awake thread if you just feel like chatting or expressing your feelings. There is a lot of experience posting there to encourage and inform you.
Take care. Love Karen
Thank you Karen for you reply sounds encouraging to know that although not an easy ride that there will be light at the end of the tunnel. such a scary time with millions of scenarios racing around my mind.
Thank you I'll look at the awake club! I used to be a great sleeper until I was diagnosed with BC & now my sleep is none existent! Hopefully that will settle soon. xx
From what you are saying, you should be under the care of a dietician, through the NHS. If you aren't already, ask to be referred. The food intake you are describing may not be providing all the needed nutrients, including proteins, but a dietitian would be able to advise you on what to eat in order to balance everything correctly so that you get what you need while maintaining the limitations imposed by the existing medical conditions.
Hi there, I can sympathise with you, I also have gallstones and have been told they cannot operate until all my cancer treatment for ILC & DCIS is completed unless it is an emergency. I also have a limited diet as well as dairy and gluten allergy. I find thick homemade soup/stew (I make a batch & freeze it) and omelette are good fillers without upsetting my gallstones. Good luck with your treatment and diet xx
Thank you Heaven for your message & sorry your having diet issues too! it's been such a struggle, can I ask what ingredients you put in your soup ? Unfortunately eggs are a huge trigger for me but thank you for the soup tip. Strange how different foods upsets each individual differently. Honey xx
Hi Honeypot, I make a thick stew. 2 oxo cubes, very lean Beef pieces, Potatoes, Swede, Carrots, parsnips. You can throw in an onion if you are not affected by them but they can upset the gallbladder. I never put peppers etc in for the same reason. Let it cook for a good long while and let some of the vegetables dissolve away so that it thickens. I find this tasty, filling and no upset tummy. I freeze some, I take it to work for lunch as well. Another good soup is butternut squash soup. You can add cream to that (I don't eat dairy so I don't put any in) Again I let it simmer away. I avoid eating bread, bacon, bell peppers, pastry. olives. I avoid black pepper as well as it aggravates the gallbladder. I hope this is helpful.
Thank you kindly for soup idea I will try this soon! xx
