I have had a lumpectomy and will be having radiotherapy in 8 weeks time. I don't know whether I will be having the 5 week or 15 radiotherapy. Does anyone know if the 5 week has more side effects than the 15?
Do you mean the 5 treatment regime versus the 15 treatment regime?
The 5 treatment gives a lower total dose with more given every day but it gives the same biological effect as the 15 treatment regime.
In my experience the skin reaction seems to be less with the 5 treatment regime….( I had this myself) but a lot depends on your skin type,the size of your boobs and the area being treated.
Your oncologist will choose which fractionation you receive depending on your age, tumour type and disease stage.
