Hi just had my diagnosis of breast cancer last week this is the second time I have had it in the same breast my surgeon. Had suggested a mastectomy and reconstruction which I have just got my head around and accepted this was the way to go
But to day I have been told by the nurse specialist that a reconstruction is not possible because my bmi at is 35 and they won't do reconstruction s if your bmi is over 30
Also because I had a deep induction and radiotherapy it is noticeable to do a reconstruction
I am so confused now has anyone else experienced this please help put my mind at ease
Hello Carpet girl. It's frustrating to read, yet again, that someone was presented with an option that was later on withdrawn based on factors that were already known at the time the suggestion was made. This really shouldn't have happened; the surgeon should have told you during the consultation, and you would have then been able to discuss the options going forward, be it to delay the reconstruction until you get below 30, or how to proceed if you have no desire to change that aspect. The current situation, in my opinion, calls for another consultation, as the last one was, well, misleading.
