Hi I have recently joined this female dominated cancer world I have had mastectomy followed by lymph node clearance joined optima trial so skipped chemo and went onto radiotherapy for 5 days and tamoxifen daily. Pain scale: Biopsy 8-10 Mastectomy 3-10 Lymph node clearance 3-10 Radiotherapy 1-10 This is a really hard cancer if you happen to be a gentleman sat in waiting rooms listening to woman talking about there treatments but it is the only way a male can find out the pitfalls of treatments and i would like to thank and apologize for listening in because without this there is nothing out there for males! We are told dont go on internet at clinics but how on earth can you find something or someone to talk to,i personally felt like i had been pushed of a cliff as i could not find a solution having contacted a charity and the internet is all about female led questions. I mentioned this to a consultant and his nurse came up trumps with a male support network at Breast Cancer Now , so any males looking for advise ,support look at this charity because there is nothing out there for males and when you find a post it is usually years old . Thank you
Has that been going on for long? I have no idea how long mine is going to continue to fill with fluid. It's already pumped up a little bit today.
I've been diagnosed with lymphoedema. It started up about 3 months after I finished rads. In jan 22 I referred myself to physio due to arm swelling and puffy armpit. I have a definitie ridge in the lower half of my boob. I've relocated and had my second year check up at new hospital and theybreferred me to the lymphoedema clinic. Its amazing at the difference in treatment. I got told off for wearing a wired bra so am back to the soft ones even though I'm quite large and I don't feel supported. I was given a soft bra too. I also have this strip of fabric its like fabric bubble wrap which I put in my bra at the bottom cos everything I move it massages boob so it is improving although I'm told it will never fully dissappear. She did mention she could give me some massage techniques but that would be on next visit. It is worth speaking to BCN for referral.
Ok ,so £4.99 6" paint roller comes with a tray for painting also foam or lambs wool roller, you can apply as much pressure to area and just roll away fluid in all directions .it does work as fluid build up/swelling goes away and you can keep the paint tray for your next decorating project .kind regards
So simple I love it and would never have thought of that, and probably much more effective than trying to use my hands, which is what I do now. Thank you!
Hi, mine is in the breast area, not the arm, and I have had it since finishing radiotherapy in Nov 2021. I've been told it's never going to completely go away as the radiotherapy did the damage. Honestly I think the side effects to radiotherapy are not that well talked about. Anyway, like tiredminion, I have a ridge at the bottom of my breast and a more general large area of swelling at the top. I have another referral now as we have some sort of new machine (?) at our cancer centre, so am there in a few weeks to see if that helps. Best of luck
I'm at G cup and have always worn non wired bras, M&S have a really good choice that give great support.
Update on my situation. My last posting mentioned being started on Tamoxifen (citrate) alongside Herceptin. My body rebelled yet again and I had my second flare up of Ulcerative Colitis.
Approx 27 years ago I had U.C. for the first time shortly after I had an allergic reaction to Amoxicillin, it took many months to get my body right again. A couple of weeks into the Herc/Tamo mix of meds back it came. Steroids, enemas and suppositories plus a week in Gastroenterology ward was the order of the day.
I am now 95% mended but with a firm resolve to have no more heavy duty meds because they seem intent on killing me.
Off for Echocardiogram today, that should be safe enough.
Take care all of you.
I started with 6" roller as it was all i had in the shed, I am now on level 2 having found where its best to push fluid /swelling away quickest, so spent £2.99 on 3" roller which i can use 2-3 minutes on exact area, I seem to get more build up the more heavy lifting /far stretching i do at top of chest across to top of shoulder but it can build up during the night, the most i use roller has been 5 minutes, and until medics tell me not to use roller i am going to continue getting rid of build up. Kind regards
One more thing to add, because of the P.E. I had after the first cycle of chemo I am on daily Edoxaban (anti-coagulant). I did stop taking it when I had U.C. flare up because I was anaemic thanks to blood loss via the rectum. 12 to 15 urgent bowel evacuations every day is no fun at all.
Back on Edox again probably for life.
I have also persuaded SWIMBO to agree to me leaving my body to medical science. All paperwork completed and lodged at Q.M. Nottingham.
