Hi    I have recently joined this female dominated cancer world  I have had mastectomy followed by lymph node clearance joined optima trial so skipped chemo and went onto radiotherapy for 5 days and tamoxifen daily. Pain scale: Biopsy 8-10  Mastectomy 3-10  Lymph node clearance 3-10  Radiotherapy  1-10 This is a really hard cancer if you happen to be a gentleman sat in waiting rooms listening to woman talking about there treatments but it is the only way a male can find out the pitfalls of treatments and i would like to thank and apologize for listening in because without this there is nothing out there for males! We are told dont go on internet at clinics but how on earth can you find something or someone to talk to,i personally felt like i had been pushed of a cliff as i could not find a solution having contacted a charity and the internet is all about female led questions. I mentioned this to a consultant and his nurse came up trumps with a male support network at Breast Cancer Now , so any males looking for advise ,support look at this charity because there is nothing out there for males and when you find a post it is usually years old . Thank you

  • I suppose the only way is to compare when you are on a different brand is to see how you feel - achy joints, swollen ankles, insomnia - all or some of the above? I noticed a remarkable difference when on my preferred brand. I could barely walk a flight of stairs before.  I'm doing OK thanks. Just plodding on as sometimes it's the only thing to do x

  • I hope I'm not alone in saying, ask us ladies if you want. Some things might differ but I for one, normally sit in the waiting rooms BORED TO TEARS or just trying to stay awake. Ask away. You might make some new friends. Good luck to everyone in this sh*# club.

Love and hugs to all xxx

  • Just a heads up to you guys .What to take into hospital on morning of surgery ? As little as possible this is not a hotel.A bag to hold everything you are wearing now.Your clothes into bag and then you go to theatre in hospital gown your dressing gown and your slippers that's it .Your bag will be taken to a ward with your gown and slippers.TIP try to go to hospital wearing your slippers one less thing to put into your bag and you won't have to struggle putting shoes on after. I had to be there at 7.00am and waited with other people till 11.30am watching tv,then went for injection into arm with dye which lit up my tumour ! .back to waiting room till 1.00pm and then called to change for op.1.30pm went for op.Into recovery room after op and then onto ward to meet up with my bag of clothes, after surgeon had done all his surgery for the day discharged at 6,00pm.hope this helps someone getting sorted for there surgery day.kind regards

  • That's a helpful post, thanks. I'd add a book, it can be very boring waiting and I found something to occupy me to pass the time was useful and (sort of) took my mind off it

  • UK medicines watchdog the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) stuck an alert on one batch of Tamoxifen 20mg tablets.

The recall only impacts one batch of the pills, manufactured by Wockhardt UK Limited, with the batch number HZ10030 and an expiry date of April 30, 2027. check your boxes.kind regards

  • Thanks for the info. I only like Wockhardt so will check my boxes when home

  • Well almost 4 years in now , fourth mammogram due next month, now i know why the wife hates going !I still get very extreme pain when i over stretch or lift something heavy due to radiotherapy cooking my ribs and tissue from surgery sticking to them, but hey were still here and taking the tablets, glad the weather is a bit cooler and the hot flushes are better.Brings it all back going to breast unit at hospital sitting watching all the ladies waiting for appointments ,sad times.kind regards

  • I hear you! I had my 4th annual check up in July and I also still get pain when I lie in my side, or sometimes even when someone gives me a hug!  Hot flushes, leg pain and UTIs are my side effects joy, but it could be so very much worse.  Hope your mammogram goes well

  • Well thats my 4 year mammogram done ,one more to go next year.it doesn't seem like 4 years during covid i started this journey, and it all comes back, good and bad, going to the drive thru covid check before op,going alone for op as no one was allowed to come with you,and having to go thru all this twice as lymph nodes had cancer traces after first op,It was a bit strange today as i got a lot of looks probably all thinking what's a bloke  doing in a breast unit and me looking around the room thinking which ones are going home with bad news.kind regards

  • I also had treatment during COVID, 4 years ago too, hard to believe the way we had to manage then.  Hope your mammogram went well
