Hi…I am six to seven weeks post my weekly paclitaxel chemo.. two and a half weeks post my lumpectomy and axillary removal… all is fine but still when I blow my nose while I am cold or for any reason, I still find a blood on my tissue.. is this anything I should be worried about and call my nurse to ask about or it is natural.. is this because my blood count is still weak or will it stop gradually.. did anyone had this experience and any advice.. it is not dripping or too bad but still I see blood on my tissue makes me worried.. I am doing fine with my lumpectomy and axillary nodes clearance surgery… love you all xxx

  • Hello oleen. I had the same issue while on a certain chemo regime that involved a form of paclitaxel, and for a while after. As far as I know this has nothing to do with the blood count, it is about the tissues inside the nose, and it takes a while to right itself. I cannot quite remember when it stopped, how long after coming off that type of chemo, but it did stop in the end.

Overall, it can take a while for the body to overcome chemo, with some side effects going away after some weeks, others taking months to disappear. So, while I would say you are well within the time frame, I would also suggest phoning the nurse, for two reasons: first, so that the team knows and this is recorded, second, so that you can get feedback from a medical professional who is part of your team and knows your medical history. She may also be able to give an educated guess as to when this might stop.
