9 Days later...

Hello, I am new to this forum, I am 9 days on from my 2nd mastectomy  which I had done for symmetry.  I recovered so well from my first, 3 years ago that I am totally shocked at the way I am feeling now.   I don't have a lot of pain, just the odd stab, more like an electric shock so that's not too bad but after feeling quite normal, on day 4 I suffered the most horrendous bout of constipation. It was gruesome!  I am now taking lactulose and hoping it doesn't happen again as it was so painful.

Now I am getting a weird feeling in my back passage, a sort of  fluttery, twitching thing from time to time, has anyone else had this? It's frightening the daylights out of me.

I am also very swollen under my dressing almost like a new boob growing.Could this be because I didn't have drains this time?

If anyone can relate to any of this and put my mind at rest? I am crying a lot and so stressed. Thank you.

  • Hi Anon22, sorry to hear you are struggling.  The pains could be the nerves mending after your operation, but given your swelling I would get this checked out asap.  After your operation, did they give you a phone number to contact if you had post-op problems?   If so, give them a call today.   If not, suggest you phone NHS 24 on 111 for advice.  Constipation is very common post-op and my system shut down completely for 4 days around my op and then I had constipation for a few days - my BCN said it was the combined effect of the anaesthetic and the painkillers (think codeine based painkillers are worst for this). Your system might still be quite lethargic (mine is) which is causing the weird feeling, but I'd mention this too, to whoever you contact today.   Hope everything gets better soon x
