Hi I finished my chemotherapy and radiotherapy at the end of September I had a lumpectomy and two lymph node is taken from under my arm seven months on from surgery I’m getting pain under the arm stiffness and also needle a pain in the breast and feels weird I think maybe I didn’t want to touch the scare or anything before and now I am I keep panicking thinking I can feel lamps
I spoke with the nurse from the hospital and she said stop examining myself and just do it once a month does anyone else feel pain in the nipple area and breast after treatment stopped and do you get pain in your arm just need to know really I can’t feel no lamps have checked myself but feel scared all the time I’m worried, also still get very tired now on letrazole for 10 years I’m told
Hi Kim c I got niggly needle pains too after lumpectomy, took time to settle down. I just had one node taken. No stiffness but everyone different. Hopefully it settles down, take the analgesics they recommend you take. Yes radiotherapy can cause feelings in the area too x
Hi, I still have some swelling and some pains from time to time and my consultant assured me it's the after effects of the radiotherapy (this was in October). But if you're worried, have a chat with your consultant to see if they are concerned or can reassure you. It's natural to be worried but I hope you can find a way to manage it. Good luck
I've had pain for 6 years from lumpectomy. I only found out last November I have about a dozen clips in my breast marking tumour bed. I think they are behind the nightly aches that randomly flare up. I also get scan anxiety breast pain every year from about a month before appoint tIll I get the all clear. Aren't our minds a wonderful thing. Your BCN can be a great support if you lucky enough to have one of the good ones so if you concerned something is wrong phone them.
Hi , lovely answers already but thought I’d pop in too. My mum and great aunt both died of breast cancer so I totally get your worries about recurrence. Never far away for me either. As for pain, my scar area and nipple still hurt if pressed and I’m over 3 yeas down the line! I’ve self referred back to the clinic a number of times, each time thankfully to be reassured that nothing is evident. Each yearly mammogram is painful - I take paracetamol before in the hope that it helps - and an ultrasound to check the nipple after some discharge hurt a lot! As did the physical exam. But nothing sinister was found and of course all the tests/ examinations are very reassuring. I don’t have pain under my arm but I think that’s because I had one very long incision to access both the beast and the sentinel nodes, so the scar ends just before my armpit.
Sorry for this long ramble, just wanted to say that you’re absolutely not alone with your worries and pain! Sending love and a big virtual hug your way, HFxxx
