I have decided to NOT to have the cold cap after all. Instead I have decided prior to my first chemo, to get a number 2 (not bald but some remaining hair) and ask family and friends to donate to Breast Cancer research on my behalf..saves all that faffing about!
Hi
I have had 6 chemo sessions and have and cold cap each time. I have kept at least 50 percent of my hair. It's scarce at the temples and a bit at the parting . I had it cut in a short bob at the start so they long bits cover the scarce parts. It just looks thin but I can get away with it.
I had a lot of shedding of hair after the second treatment but not too much otherwise so don't let that put you odd if you go for it. It's a bit uncomfortable at first but after the first 15 mins not so bad. It does make your treatment a bit longer but it has been worth it for me.
Xx
Hi
I had my first chemo on Wednesday and had the cold cap. I just thought it was worth a go but told my self there was no pressure if I couldn’t handle it. It was uncomfortable but bearable. I was advised to take paracetamol 30 minutes before . How effective it is remains to be seen…..

Many thank Chockdee for your reply! I’m def going to give it a try ! Much appreciated thank you x
The staff were brilliant. Kept me supplied with hot drinks. Blankets available if needed. Have something ready to keep yourself occupied as soon as it goes on.
Hi - I’ve just done my 3rd round of cold cap (5 more to go). It’s working - none came out after round 1, a fair bit on round 2 when I brushed (like 2-3 hairbrushes full each time so I reduced the amount I wash & brush it) then this time not as much so far. Thinned on parting & around ears and overall lost volume but my hair is fine anyway - but not noticeable to anyone else. It is pretty uncomfortable but bearable. I take a beanie with me for afterwards as your head is cold from it & hair is wet from the spray they put in. The first night after I did have a bad headache but I don’t know if it was cold cap or the chemo - so be ready with the paracetamol! It’s been worth it for me so give it a go!
I’ve been using the cold cap for 11 weeks of paclitaxel & it’s worked amazingly for me so far. Prob lost 30% of my hair in total, but no bald spots just general thinning. I can tell, but nobody else seems to be able to! I have paracetamol with me, but have rarely taken it. The best thing I invested in was a soft warm blanket as it can get chilly just sat for a few hours! Only 1 pac treatment left for me then onto AC for 2 cycles… keeping everything crossed it does it’s job then too!
