My chemo therapy finished in December, then I had surgery in January, lumpectomy, non cancerous mass and 10 lymph nodes removed. My surgery hasn’t healed as quickly as it should. We are now on 15 weeks since chemo finished. I have an appointment on 24th of this month, I have been told it will start 2 weeks after my appointment. That will cow 18 weeks. I am really worried now as I read on here that it is supposed to be done by 8 weeks at the latest. Can anyone advise if this has happened to then and maybe give me some advice please.
Hi
Radiotherapy waiting time is usually counted from whichever was your last treatment which in your case is surgery. So I make that 12weeks max if you had surgery in January which is acceptable.Unfortunately waiting times for RT have been extended by the pandemic.Remember you have already had two forms of treatment and the RT is your insurance policy.
Sorry to hear your surgery didn’t heal quickly. It’s important that you are healed before starting treatment as radiotherapy can slow down the healing process.
are you on any hormone treatment at all ?
I waited 10 weeks for my RT last year and I spoke to an oncologist friend who said 12 weeks was fine so I felt reassured.
If you are concerned about your timings I would flag it up to your breast care nurse or oncologist so they can reassure you.
I hope all goes well going forwards
Take care.
