i finished 6 months of chemo on December 6th 21, had a lumpectomy and breast reconstruction 14th January. I have an appointment with the radiologist consultant on 24th March, should have been 8th. March but it got delayed by the consultant. I have to have 15 days worth. I imagine my radio will start around 2 weeks after around 8th April I have a 2 week holiday abroad booked on 4th May. 22.
Can anyone who’s had radiotherapy advise if they went on holiday a week or so after finishing the radiotherapy and if so how were they health wise.

  • if you going on sunbathing holiday your skin will be delicate as I had 15 sessions and I had a hot, slightly sun burned boob with skin breakdown under breast as I'm a G cup and it's common on larger breasts.  You can go but would have to cover up as skin takes a while to heal up fully.  If you going on tourist, sightseeing you might find you still struggling with fatigue.  Ask about impact if delaying RT till after holiday x

  • Hi, I went to the US about 2 week after finished radiotherapy. I did have some swelling and a seroma and I was super careful of the sun.  Also, ensure your health insurance covers you for travel at this particular time of treatment. The main risk I was concerned about what getting an infection and needing antibiotics.  Good luck

  • Thank you, I am thinking about asking about having 5 intensive instead of 15 sesssions. I definitely won’t be touristing, and I don’t come out from under the Brolly as my skin is fair and I always use 50 factor sun cream..

  • Thank you for that I will ask the consultant or the GP for antibiotics to take with me,

  • I went to Greece a couple of weeks after radiotherapy, I was advised keep the area out of the sun, sit in the shade, factor 50, t-shirt or swim top in the pool. Still moisturise, etc xx

  • Thank you I appreciate your reply, I feel a lot better about going now xx
