Hi there

Having Zoledronic acid treatment in two weeks time. Slightly nervous but I know it’s the right decision for me. I had a lumpectomy May 21 then found out it had spread to my lymph nodes so I then had the rest of the nodes removed followed by radiotherapy. I’m now on Letrozole for ten years. Suffering from still joint because of the Letrozole.  I’ve been offered this treatment as it had spread to my nodes.

Anyone else had this treatment?

  • Hi I was diagnosed June 21, lumpectomy July and auxiliary clearance September, had radiotherapy in January this year and first zoldronic acid at the end of January, I’m also on letrozole for 10 years.

Thanks for your reply. How was the Zoledronic acid treatment for you? How are you on Letrozole?

  • Hi Phonsie

I have had three zolendronic acid so far, three to go. I was on letrozole for six months or so. When I mentioned to the onc about painful swollen hands in the mornings and feeling I shouldn't drive she immediately suggested switching to exemestane, although she said she couldn't guarantee that it would stop the side-effects. I did this switch just before Christmas. She said it would take 8 weeks for the letrozole to wash out. I noticed a gradual improvement in the hands and also knees and ankles. Now more or less back to how I was before. This change has certainly been good for me. Maybe it could help others too, if they are having letrozole problems.

No problems from the zolendronic acid except that I feel really tired on the evening after I have had it.

All in all, given that I had positive nodes too,  I am glad to be being given these treatments, as it makes it less likely that the gremlin will return.

All the best to everyone here

    Hi

Thank you so much for your reply. All sounds very encouraged. I will mention to my oncologist about switching tablets. I’ve given it a good try as been on them since august 2022,

  • Hi I had my first Zolendronic treatment  in November felt ok just tired after it. I’m also on exemestane with little side effects when I listen to others, stiff ankles and hands in the morning but once I get moving they settle down.

  • Hi, I am coping fine with the Letrozole. But I must admit the first Zometa (Zoledronic acid) gave me about 12 hours of flu symptoms, then I was fine after that.  Good luck
