Going bra-less after mastectomy with reconstruction...

Hi

Well, I had my single mastectomy with DIEP flap reconstruction almost eight weeks ago. I'm only a C-cup anyway and have been wearing my usual over-the-head sporty bra-thing (two together for more support actually) for the last few weeks as I hate normal bras and find them extremely uncomfortable, even painful.

I'm doing incredibly well, I'm astounded by how quickly everything is healing and to be honest, no one who doesn't know, can tell I've had anything done at all!

I just want to take my bra off now and then, to allow my new boob to sink/sag/hang a little to get it to look like my other saggy one. I wear my sports bra 24 hours a day and only take it off to shower at the moment.

Has anyone dumped, or partially dumped their bra at this stage??

  • Sorry no one has answered you, this should bump you up to the first page where hopefully you will start getting some answers.  Love from Ann

  • Hi, I am due to have a mastectomy (single) in October. I was wondering whether or not I need to wear a bra afterwards? Whether it’s more comfortable not to bother for a while? Just wondering what everybody else did orders?

  • I had my masectomy and reconstruction end of May.Ive been wearing a support bra 24/7 since I'm a DD cup.Im still having swelling though.I did go to bed last night without a bra because I have shingles at the moment and the bra wasn't helping.

You can get scar tape to help with the support without a bra.
