Bruising puzzle

I had to have a second operation on Monday to evacuate a large haematoma after a lumpectomy on the right breast the week previous. Obviously this has caused further extensive bruising even though they went back in through the original incision. I have a lot of additional bruising down the middle of my chest and even across to my left breast. I just don’t understand how my left breast got so bruised unless the bleeding had spread and had to be washed out from the middle also.

Im puzzled, any ideas anyone? Been left exhausted after two ops in a week and my emotional resilience is being challenged a great deal. Be glad to chat Pray tone1

  • Hi GiilyT

Poor you, that sounds horrible and exhausting. I don’t know what to suggest, did you speak to Breast Care Nurses?

I had my surgery Tuesday and they also removed a small haematoma that had formed from one of the biopsies. I’m sure that’s forming again.

I am not sure how I can help, except to be here and listen. Xx

Thanks for replying Karen. I hope you’re recovering well. They can’t tell me why I had such a big haematoma but I was prescribed ibuprofen as well as paracetamol after my first surgery and I’ve since read you shouldn’t take ibuprofen after surgery due to bleeding risk!  I am worried about it happening again and clearly you are too. This additional bruising in the middle and opposite side is only just showing itself 3 days post op number two. I even have a large purple bruise under my left breast which is a mystery. Appointment at clinic on Monday for follow up so will see what BC nurses say.
Are you managing to rest and sleep okay etc? I’ve decamped to the sofa for ease and comfort plus taking a codeine at night to help me relax and sleep xx

  • Hi Gilly, Oh dear, you’re having a bad time. I can’t take ibuprofen, so just on paracetamol. I slept okay last night with pillow under my arm, if that makes sense. Maybe the blood just has to go somewhere and it’s flowing that way? I would give them a call and just get some advice as to what is going on.

I hope you manage to get comfy and get some rest. xx
