Has anyone had issue with their bowels after chemo? My last chemo session was on December 29th. I am having to go to the toilet reguarly, around 4 or 5 times a day (sorry to be tmi) its really gassy and not like normal. I am so scared this is a symptom of bowel cancer now as well as my breast cancer. I just wondered whether anyone else has had bowel changes after chemo?

  • I had the opposite problem -- that end of the digestive system seemed to have decided to go on extended strike. It's a known side effect of some chemo treatments, both manifestations. Even now, over a month since last treatment, things are not quite back to normal, but getting better.

You can ask for bowel cancer screening, even just to put your mind at rest, but in the meantime, possibly your nurse could direct you to options to bring this under control?

  • Yes I’ve had diahorrea and constipation at different times with chemo. The issue is that chemo attacks ALL fast dividing cells in your body, so anything in your digestive system, mouth, throat, bowels, stomach, etc can be affected and immune systems as they all rely on fast dividing cells x
