Hi I had lumpectomy & radiotherapy last year & put on letrozole found my joints are very stiff painful especially in the morning very tired & also feel like I'm in a fog most of the time with hot sweats night & day. I tried exemestane but made me terribly depressed & weepy so went back to letrozole. Do the side effects ever get easier????  I'm 61 but feel 101!!! :(

  • Hi, sorry you're struggling with the Letrozole. I was advised that it can take up to 6 months for the side effects to settle down.

I have also heard that some people react differently to the different brands of Letrozole so it might be worth talking to your pharmacy about switching brands. The drug is the same but the other ingredients are different by brand and for some reason this seems to make a difference for some people.

    Good luck

    Hello

I've been on letrozole for 5 months nearly. Disturbed sleep the worst. Been listening to Dr Louise Newson podcasts, she's a menopause expert. This episode is about a lady who was having problems with letrazole and switched to tamoxifen. Worth a listen.

    All the best x

  • Hi Pud987, I have been on Letrazole for 3 months now. I have had numerous side effects with fatigue, mouth ulcers, aches and pains and inability to sleep being the worst of them. I am hoping it is a sign things are settling but I went fior 2 long walks today without sheer exhaustion creeping inand I slept well for the past two nights. Of course I shall be unable to sleep tonight now I have said that!

Hopefully your symptoms will calm down soon.

  • After chatting with my BCN yesterday, my oncologist has advised me to stop Letrozole to see if the SE (especially the skin rashes and sleep issues ease.
