Evening ladies,
I hope you are all doing as well as you can be in your battles. I have osophagus cancer with a rare tumour type which makes me eligible to herceptin (usually used in breast cancer) which has had amazing results for me. Due to its success alongside chemotherapy I will now be entering 3 months surveillance with herceptin only?
Have any of you ladies been on just herceptin? If so can you please tell me what side effects you encountered?
Thank you and apologies for sneaking into your forum for help. I wish you all success in your journeys
Yes I’m on just herceptin, well herceptin and perjeta, I’ve had it in its own IV and as a phesgo injection, I’m not sure I’m having any side effects with it in its own. Possibly some fatigue? But I only finished chemo beginning November and had surgery 4 weeks ago so it’s hard to work out what comes from where! But I feel fairly confident saying that no I don’t seem to have any. I have a chemo buddy with stage 4 breast, spine mets, and she has herceptin to control it and she always says she doesn’t have any side effects and she’s on about dose 90! It’s kept her cancer stable for a long time. So fingers crossed for you, all the very best xx
Thank you so much for responding that sounds promising. I look forward to feeling normal again. I was stage 4 with secondaries in my lymthnodes and my results have been remarkable after only 4 they can no longer see my secondaries and my primary is barely visible. The plan now is for herceptin for 3 months with a hope to operate
Hi Vinny1986 After chemo I moved straight on to 18 cycles of Herceptin infusions given every three weeks .Finished them January 2021 so just on bisphosphonate infusions now every 6months . Last one in June hopefully .
my bio written up in profile if you want to read it .
Compared to chemo it wasn’t a problem alternative thigh so no area of soreness ,fatigue but not as heavy as chemo fatigue . All done in couple of days
Best advice I had was to ask to be given phial of Herceptin so you can warm it up in your hands also rub thigh . It is then less painful going in .
I was usually in unit approx 30 mins .
hope it goes well
Thank you very much for your response I think I will continue to receive herceptin through my picc line that I have fitted in my arm for my treatments. I have no pain whilst it is infused, but was curious as to the symptoms by itself. Fingers crossed it is just Fatigue as that is fine I don't mind relaxing for a few days after treatment, it's good to hear it's going to be less that chemotherapy.
I wish you luck with your treatments and journey.
Hi, I've been on Phesgo injections since chemo finished and can honestly say I've had no side effects. I am lucky enough to have treatment at home and I am back working from home within half an hour of the jab! Good luck x
Hey, that is amazing to hear thank you for taking time to respond and good luck with your treatment too
