Hi

Having chemo at the moment anyone experiencing a strange taste in their mouth making food and drink taste funny?

If so any solutions?

Thanks

  • Yup! Really horrible and a standard side effect very sorry to report. You have to pick your way around certain flavours, some of us find lemon or citrus flavours palatable, ice lollies, sorbets, I also could manage porridge, scrambled eggs, cheesy things, some find spicy food palatable, I couldn’t do chocolate, very sadly! Hope you’re not feeling too rough x

Thanks for the reply do you know of any toothpaste or mouth wash that could help?

  • It's horrid, isn't it. Try pineapple, or pineapple juice. Salivax pastilles also helped when my mouth was dry and boiled sweets ok too.  For me it lasted about 10 days each cycle.

  • Not really tbh, I tried a few boiled sweets but didn’t work for me plus it skinned the roof of my mouth Sob sucking ice cubes, pineapple cuts through it, it isn’t nice, I just tried to pick the least offensive foods xx

  • As said pineapple helped mine ....if anyone knows how long it lasts I  am 7 weeks since last chemo and still have horrible taste xx

Hi...my mouth is like the bottom of a birdcage totally rank.for me lasted for about 10 days after chemo. Like others lemon sherbet, lemon squash, gingernuts. I Do brush teeth at least 3 times a day....just tey to make most of eating nice things once taste returns...

Can't wait for it all to begin again this week with cycle 2..Rolling eyes

let me know if you find any good Toothpaste x
