I am booked in to have acupuncture to try and help with night sweats in particular and hot flushes in general.
For anyone that has gone down this route, how many sessions did it take to see a difference?
They have said it is usually 6 sessions and then top ups every so often, but if I haven't seen a difference in a few sessions, then should I assume it won't work for me and save my money on the rest?
I have had acupuncture. I have an old school friend who has a clinic near me and has also treated cancer patients. I had 8 sessions and now I have one once a month. so nearly 10. it takes 6-8 sessions to feel a difference. It has helped my sleep and a few hot flushes but I suffer more now with cold chills instead. She focussed on my energy levels too which are better. I thought of it as an investment in me although not cheap and I did manage to claim 3 sessions back through work health programme. It is worth giving it a go but appreciate its not for everyone. There are a few others who have had it too as i posted a thread about it las Nov asking people and got a few replies. good luck x
Hi
I have had 3 sessions of acupuncture so far for general wellbeing/ energy and sleep rather than hot flushes and I found it is making a difference faily quickly. May be an element of changed mindset as well but do feel I am benefitting so will be continuing with them
That's great thanks, would be amazing to help with sleep too!
That's really helpful to know you found some relief quickly thank you
Hi Beatthebreast, I had 6 sessions of ear acupuncture for hot flushes at the Maggie’s centre at Addenbrookes. Definitely found it helped. They didn’t disappear but seemed to be less intense as well as less frequent. And also very relaxing, somehow. I made 2 good friends in the group - it was 3 years ago and we still meet up from time to time. I call them my hormonally deranged group! HFxx
I’ve posted about this before so apologies to those that have read it already.
I was offered acupuncture by my oncologist at the Royal Marsden… I had six initial sessions and on the 6 th I was taught by them to put needles in my feet and legs myself.
I do this weekly and now have a top up session at the hospital every two months.
I found relief from the hot flushes after two sessions and now I am self needling I hardly have any.
My mood and fatigue has also improved but that took about 4 sessions.
hope this helps
I had seen your posts which is what made me interested! They don't offer it here on the NHS so I am paying privately, would be good to learn to do it myself but thinking that won't be possible. Good to hear how much it helped you
That's great they helped, really hoping they help my night sweats as these keep me awake.
I’m sad that you can’t get the same opportunity on the NHS.
I jumped at the chance to be taught to self needle so now I’m given a supply of needles and a container for sharps and left to get on with it.It’s surprisingly easy…..
Take care x
I am paying privately too as not offered here through NHS sadly
