This may sound like an irrelevant question but I'm going in for a mastectomy and I have my nails done, they're gel. Someone told me I need to remove any nail varnish/gel beforehand. Has anyone any information on this.

  • Hello Ahrensmum. I've had two breast operations and both times I received an information leaflet from the breast nurse prior to the ops stating no make up and no nail varnish (fingers & toes) to be worn during surgery. If you've not been given any information from your hospital yet I'd suggest speaking to your nurse to check their procedures. Hope your mastectomy goes well x

  • Thankyou so much. I was only diagnosed 2wks ago and it's been a whirlwind to be honest. xx

  • Sorry to hear of your diagnosis and upcoming surgery, yes they nails will need to go I’m afraid, no nail polish for surgery x

  • Thankyou Anna 12345 for both your advice and kind words. At the end of the day they're just nails. How very daunting this last 3 weeks have been but I'm a glass half full person and with that in mind am trying to rationalise and put things into perspective despite being absolutely terrified.

  • Yup it’s a horrible, disorientating time, try and break it down into little steps. It does end and you’ll be amazed how fast it went in some ways xx
