Had my first 3 sessions of docetaxel was fine not many side effects at all next week start EC and worried that I won't be able to cope with the side effects how bad can they be

  • Hi

you don’t say if transfusions or tablets

    I had EC X 6 infusions

I was warned that hair loss was a given and usually within days of first cycle .. mine lasted til third cycle .

My treatment story is on my profile ( just click on my name ) have a read if you want .

We all react differently to chemo ,I deliberately planned in advance so used child soft  toothbrush and mild toothpaste along with daily mouthwash Still got ulcers and oral thrush but unit provided meds and it was manageable .

It was very dehydrating so make sure you keep your fluids up as well as drinking lots I also used homemade soups for lunch to keep fluid up .Also moisturising skin .
I kept diary of SE so could see pattern ..Headache started as I was getting infusion then fatigue with nausea by day 10 would start to pick up so day 15 I would plan for few days away before starting again .

Overall I found it manageable ,not pleasant but doable . What I did find was it was very cumulative SE so 5&6 was quite tough each one being delayed by week to give body a chance to recover .

Main advice would be listen to body and ask unit for help if you feel unwell they can supply meds .
best wishes for rest of treatment

One step at a time and ...Breathe !
