I’m 2 week into my first EC chemo and have not had a bad experience so far apart from very sore ulcers on my tongue and gums feel tender . The ulcers are making me pretty miserable and I’m finding it hard to eat , even drinking water causes pain. I’ve tried salt water and various none alcohol mouth washes , which do ease the pain for a short time time. I’m worried that they won’t heal with being on chemo and that I will get more after each infusion.
I know everyone is different but wondered if anyone has any advice or experience of the same .
Best wishes to everyone.
Hi Missi
I'm on different drugs to you, but the difflam mouthwash helped my mouth ulcers and also one of the BC nurses recommended clove oil, which provided temporary relief, I would definitely check with your care team before trying it though, as with all these products it's best to check first.
I hope you get sorted soon, it's not a nice thing to have, sending hugs.

Hi Miss K, im 12days post first EC treatment and I am starting with mouth ulcers today, I have one on the inside bottom gum, really sore, I too was given mouth wash by chemo team but it dosent seem to be working, sorry your struggling, please get in touch with your chemo team, hoping you get some relief.
I use this after reading about it on here I have had 3 cycles and only had a couple of tiny ulcers and bonjela sorted them out.
Hi Gitto,
sorry to hear you too are suffering with mouth ulcers, they really are awful. After my first EC infusion they were so bad the doctor prescribed me some hydrocortisone muco-adhesive buccal tablets and they cleaned up . I didn’t get ulcers with my second infusions but have a couple of manageable ones after my 3rd. I have been using the difflam mouthwash which helps . Good luck with your treatment.
Hi Missi K , I am 2.5 weeks after my first EC treatment and have also been suffering with mouth ulcers, I was given diflam by my chemo day unit but had to contact them as I also was finding it hard to eat, I was given gelclair and it has been amazing, you can apply directly to sores and mixed with water can also be used as a mouth wash, hope this helps you, sending best wishes
Thankyou, I will definitely request this if mouth ulcers return . Just had my first Docetaxol infusion yesterday so will see what lovely side effects have in store for me in the coming days , oh the joys , but we keep plodding on and hoping side effects are kind to us all.
